Frances Michael Fotiades Zilko (1939 – 2018)
With great sorrow we announce the passing of Fran Zilko, 79, of Cape Coral, Florida, on November 15, 2018, while peacefully surrounded by her husband and children. Fran was born to Michael and Marion (Holloway) Fotiades in Worcester, MA on May 18, 1939, one of eight siblings.
Fran graduated from the Worcester Hospital School of Nursing in 1960 and married the love of her life, Peter Zilko, on October 15, 1960. She worked as a Registered Nurse for many years, starting in White Plains, NY. She took a hiatus from nursing to dedicate herself as a homemaker, raising her three children, and returned to nursing later in an office environment, including a surgeon and family practice. As an incredibly caring person, she utilized her craft abilities in later years to sew dresses for girls in Africa and knit caps for hospitalized babies. Her cooking and baking abilities were well known and appreciated.
Fran is survived by her loving husband Peter, daughters Christine (Michael) Shackelford of Columbus, OH and Teresa Zilko of Cape Coral, FL, son Stephen Zilko of Lansing, MI, and her three grandchildren Michael, Katya and Frances all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her brothers and sister George (Sophie) Fotiades of Shrewsbury, MA; James Fotiades of Plymouth, MA; Maria (Tom) Hughes of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Andy (Terri) Fotiades of Amelia Island, FL; Peter (Nancy) Shemeth of Martha’s Vineyard, MA and many other extended family members.
Fran was predeceased by her parents, and her brothers the late John Fotiades, Paul Fotiades, and Peter Fotiades.
There will be no public viewing but a memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 5th 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Katherine-Drexel Parish Church, 1922 SW 20th Ave Cape Coral FL 33991
