G. Thomas Hinkle M.D.

January 28, 1939 ~ April 17, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old
He lived. He loved. He laughed. Dr. George Thomas Hinkle “Tom,” died April 17, 2017. He was born in Canton, Ohio to George and Ruth Hinkle on January 28th, 1939, a birthday he shares with his youngest granddaughter, Annie. After graduating high school, he attended Ohio University and four years later, the University of Cincinnati, where he earned his Doctorate of Medicine. Prior to graduating med school, he married the love of his life, Carolyn, in 1963. Two years later in 1965, he would enlist in the United States Air Force. He served honorably for two years as a Flight Medical Officer at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana and Danang AFB, Vietnam.
Upon returning stateside in 1967, Tom and Carolyn settled with their two young sons, Tommy and Mike in Cape Coral, Florida. Seven years later in 1974, they would welcome their third son, the baby, Chris.
Immediately following his service to his country, he went into private practice. As one of Cape Coral’s original 3 doctors, he cared for and befriended many patients over the course of 20 years, until his retirement in 1988. It brought him great joy.
Tom had a giving heart and he gave of his heart freely throughout his life. In 1970 he, along with 2 others, he founded Cape Coral Little League. He continued to serve as President of the organization until 1974 and as a board member and a coach until 1980. He continued his work in youth sports as President of Babe Ruth baseball in 1980 and a board member until 1983.
He loved fishing, traveling, and the Miami Dolphins. Some of his happiest times were spent vacationing with his family at their cabin in North Carolina and later in the Florida Keys. He enjoyed life to the fullest and will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his family and many friends. Tom leaves behind his loving and caring wife, Carolyn of 54 years, his 3 sons, Tommy (Roberta), Mike (Rosa), and Chris (Krisha), who affectionately call him, “Pop,” grandchildren, Josh, Dylan, Yaminah, Jackson, Savannah, Annabelle, Wyatt, and great granddaughter, Landry.
