With family by his side, Joseph Louis Radicchi, (Joe) age 78, went to be with the Lord after a short illness on March 19, 2024. He was born November 2, 1945, in the Bronx, NY. At age 2, his family moved to Binghamton, NY. After finishing school, Joe served as part of a Heavy Attack Squadron for the U.S. Navy in California, Washington, and Alaska. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1966, he returned to New York where he worked various jobs until joining the Binghamton Fire Department in July 1970. For 20-years, he served as a firefighter and medic, receiving several commendations through the course of his tenure. During this time, he formed the Joe Radicchi Painting Co., which had a sterling reputation and catchy slogan; “Need a Pro, Insist on Joe”. After retiring from the fire department in July 1990, he sold the painting company and eventually relocated to Cape Coral, FL.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Ettore and Rose, and his two brothers, Michael, and William. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Petie, his sister, Virginia Gooding of Endwell, NY, and his children, Mark Radicchi (Rebecca) of Acworth, GA, Jennifer Hensel (Michael) of Acworth, GA, and Russell Vail (Michelle) of Kingsland, GA. He had 11 grandchildren – Dillan (Gabriella), Cameron, Cecilia, Benjamin, Mason, Sophia, Claire, Molly, Elijah, Riley, and Evelyn, and one great granddaughter, Athena. In addition, he is survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends, whom he loved and cherished.
He was known for his quick wit, joke telling ability, hard work ethic, and professionalism. He was fiercely competitive and loved playing bocce and cards mixed in with his daily pool workouts. He enjoyed his cars and long trips with his wife all over the country. Tender-hearted, he was a huge advocate of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and helping others in need, which he modeled often.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Cape Coral on April 19, 2024, at 10:45 am with lunch to follow. There will be a celebration of life in his hometown of Binghamton, later in the year.
