Donald Leland Gilmer ‘Don’
Don was born in San Diego, California on 8/16/1953 and died after a long illness at age 66 on 6/1/2020 in Fort Myers, Florida.
He served in the Navy as a Corpsman and worked as a medical technician until he went into medical device sales when living in New Zealand for 8 years. He worked as a real estate agent after moving to Cape Coral, Florida. He was an avid reader and seeker of knowledge. He favorite times included being out in nature and sailing as well as being with family and friends. Don was a dedicated Boy Scout leader for many years in Tennessee and California.
He is survived by his wife, MJ Gilmer, his son, Jeff Kendrick, granddaughter, Cora Kendrick, brother, Jeff Gilmer and nieces Bethany Bohnenstiehl, Laurel Miller-, and nephew James Gilmer, in-laws including the Colosi, Olson families, and Mo, his cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Martha Gilmer, his sister, Linda Gilmer and Andrew Gilmer.
His remains are home at www.fullermetz.com in Cape Coral. Memorial service date to be determined as planning to spread Don’s ashes in the Sierra’s in California.
