Edith Clara Spence, 89, of Cape Coral was joyfully restored in mind and body as she was called home to the Lord in heaven on Sunday April 8th.
Edith was born December 22, 1928 to James Everett and Cammie Dathan Hall in Matoake , West Virginia where she shared her childhood with her brothers Franklin and Bill and sisters Mavis, Charlotte and Jewel. Edith had a love of learning and proudly earned recognition into the National Honors Society.
In 1948 Edith married her one and only true love, E. Park Spence, who preceded her in death in 2016. Together in their 68 years of marriage they raised four wonderful children. Parker (Beverly), Lisa (Dave), Laura (Phil), Ben (Hope). They chose to put Jesus Christ first in their marriage and family, setting an example that was undeniably coveted.
Park and Edith were lifelong members of The Church of God where Edith gave freely of her time and resources. She taught Sunday school, sang in choir, served on mission boards, women’s committees and was a sought-after prayer warrior for anyone in need.
Edith, to all who knew her was a petite powerhouse that made the most of life. She was in perpetual motion from sunrise to sunset. Her positive attitude was contagious, and her smile was larger than life. She was loving, generous, and sometimes feisty. She was a great cook, a great comforter, a safe place to fall in times of need, but despite her nurturing ways she would happily beat you in a nightly game of cards.
Edith was a blessing and will be missed by many.
There will be a memorial service in her beloved West Virginia later this spring.
