John N. Ferguson

John N. Ferguson aged 84 of Cape Coral, Florida passed away on February 28, 2018. He was born in Cheshire, Massachusetts on June 18, 1933. The son of the late John O. Ferguson and Rachael (Bedard) Ferguson. He was the husband of Clementine N (Fox) Ferguson for 62 years. John graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1951 where he lettered in baseball. He played on the 1949 American Legion New England Championship team, the 1950 Legion Western MA. Championship team. He also played on the 1952 Majestic Restaurant National All American Amateur baseball championship team in Johnstown, PA. John entered Providence College in 1951 and graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting. He played freshman baseball and was the President of the Western MA club.
John served in The United States Army from June 11, 1956 to June 10, 1958. He was assigned to the 7th Finance Disbursing Section at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana where he attended and graduated from the Army Finance School. The 7th FDS was assigned temporary duty to perform payroll and disburse money to Reserve troops at Camp Perry Ohio and Ft. Polk LA while they were attending reserve training for two weeks. They also worked at the US Army Finance Center located on the base at Fort Benjamin Harrison. After active duty he was assigned to the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged on May 31, 1962 from military service. John was employed by Sears Roebuck and Company before and after military service. He was comptroller in several sears stores, Bridgeport, CT., Glens Falls, NY and Quincy and Dedham, MA. John was hired as treasurer and collector of the Town of Duxbury, Ma. In the early 1980’s where he enjoyed many years. He installed the first computer system for the collection of real estate taxes and other taxes. He invested and managed all town money. He attended the annual treasurer collector school at University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass. Where he became a certified treasurer collector. He was a co-instructor for Bond Offering classes. He was on The Executive Committee and first Vice President of The Massachusetts Treasurer Collector Association. John retired from Duxbury, MA. On August 29, 2000.
John and Teen lived in Pembroke, MA. With their 3 children John, Judi and Jan for 36 years. They had a condominium on Cape Cod and enjoyed many weekends, vacations and summers. John and Teen had a home built in 2001 in Cape Coral, Florida. They began living full time in Cape Coral in 2007.
John is survived by his wife Teen, son John (Paula) and daughters Judi (Michael) and Jan, grandchildren Michael, Lynn, Jeff, John III and Emma (Joe) brother in law William Fetherston and many nieces and nephews, cousins and Aunt Henrietta. John is pre-deceased by his sister Jacqueline.
