Ludwig August Schafft
(Lou)
January 21, 1935 – May 21, 2019
Lou was a strong man with a big heart…
He was born in Passau, Germany. The son of Ludwig and Franziska Schafft. He grew up in Germany during WWII and in 1953 moved to New York City in search of better opportunities.
He worked for Otis Elevator as a tool and Die maker, before being drafted into the Army. He then served
In the Korean War from 1954-1956.
When he returned from the Army, he went to work for Westinghouse in the Elevator Construction Union. Where he has a long successful career working on high-rise buildings in Manhattan.
In 1957, he met the love of his life. He married Judith Arlene Blaho on May 23, 1959 and together they raised their two sons, Eddie and Danny.
Lou still wanted more out of life so he decided to start his own construction company. He built many houses in New York before moving to Florida in 1977.
He continued to build several more houses and commercial building, and then he decided to take a job with the City of Cape Coral as Building Inspector.
Lou had several interest. He loved power boats, sports cars and car racing. HE was a member of the Corvette Club as well as Eagles, VFW, American Legion and Moose Lodge.
He was very active in retirement. He walked several miles a day throughout his community saying “Hello” to every baby and dog he passed.
His biggest passion in life was by far his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren Nicole, Bradley, Derek, Cristian, Logan and Gabriela. Most recently his great Grandchildren Zachary and Maisie.
Lou taught his family love, hard work and determination and will be greatly missed by all.
