Mark D. O'Brien

Mark Donald O’Brien, 82 of Cape Coral, Florida passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 19th, 2021.

Mark was born March 3rd, 1939, in Cincinnati, OH.  He graduated from Louisville Male High School in 1957. He joined the United States Navy soon after and served until 1961. Mark graduated from the University of Louisville with a BS in Business. He worked at his family’s business, National Food Service.  Mark served on The City of Meadowview Estates Board. He was elected to the 31st Legislative District in the Kentucky House of Representatives, a seat he held for 18 years. During this time, Mark was active in the Jeffersontown Rotary Club.

After moving to Florida in 1991, he was an officer in the Cape Coral U.S. Power Squadron and taught navigation.

He married Janice L. Quillman on September 7th, 1963 in Louisville, Ky. They recently celebrated their 57th anniversary. He was greatly loved by many as a son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and as a grandfather. He enjoyed a full life, always had a quick smile, and loved to laugh.

Mark was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, his parents Daniel and Selma O’Brien and sister Colleen Gimbel. He is survived by his son Shawn O’Brien (Ruth) of Fort Myers Beach, FL; daughter Erin O’Brien of Louisville, KY; his grandchildren, Katherine Hollan (Josh) of Lexington, KY; and Scott Cutsinger of Louisville, KY; his brothers Dennis O’Brien (Sherry), and Jack O’Brien.
