Mary Elizabeth (Bedick) Goodman, 77, of Cape Coral, FL went to her heavenly rest on September 11, 2017, while bravely riding out hurricane Irma in her home. Born on October 2, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA to the late John and Evelyn Bedick and preceded in death by loving husband of 39 years, Jim Goodman.
Mary is survived by eleven siblings living in seven states: older brother John married to Nan (Vallee); and ten younger siblings: Tom married to Patty (Perkins), Suzanne, Kathy married to Jim Bushmire, Pete married to Jan (Ripey), Bob married to Jenny (Gray), Debbie married to Rick Riner, Mike married to Heike (Klingenberg), Jim, Lori married to Randy Butler, and Cheryl. She is also survived by 23 loving nieces and nephews, 21 great-nieces and nephews, and paternal Aunt, Mary (Bedick) Karant (her namesake), and cousins Priscilla and Sue and their families.
Mary received a degree in nursing in 1970 from the University of Pittsburgh and continued working as a nurse until late in life. She loved her work and often told stories of one special young boy, Ryan, whom she took care of in Florida for many years until she stopped working. Her other interests included designing birthday and holiday cards with her club friends, exercising at the fitness center, and pampering her precious dog Iggy. Mary remembered birthdays and special occasions of family members with her handmade cards, and was key to keeping our large family connected. Her loss will be deeply felt.
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date and wishes to thank her good friends and neighbors who were a special part of her life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the ASPCA in memory of Mary who always had a great love of dogs. Mary was a member of the St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church of Cape Coral.
