Tribute

Pauline "Polly" Franklin, 89, passed away after a long battle with dementia on August 25, 2020. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Franklin. She is survived by 8 children (Cathy, Jeanne, Maria, Tim, Valentina, Marco, Angela, and Mary), 21 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Polly was born on February 13, 1931, to Richard and Mabel (Longcor) Giffin in Hibbing, MN. She graduated from the Minnesota School for the Deaf, Faribault, MN, in 1951. She was a majorette in the Faribault Drum Corps and developed many life long friendships from her time there.
She was accepted at Gallaudet University where she hoped to earn an English degree but due to family circumstances, was unable to attend. She worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis, until her marriage to William Franklin on October 29, 1955.
Polly was a woman of deep faith who loved unconditionally, despite her lifelong struggle with her facial deformities and deafness. She was very proud of her children, who were the love of her life, and she loved her little dogs. She was creative and resourceful; enjoying many hobbies including sewing, knitting, crocheting, fishing, and gardening. She gave of herself even to those who were less than kind to her.
The last 6 years of Polly's life were spent at Juniper Village/The Opal, in Cape Coral, FL. She developed many friendships there with the residents and staff, who were enamored with her playful nature. We are grateful for the dedicated, loving care that our Mother received at Juniper Village/The Opal by their staff and by the Hope Hospice team.
