On December 20, 2018, Peter Duane Garrigus, 53, joined his heavenly family. Pete is survived by the love of his life, Laura Grace Garvin Garrigus, and his loving, devoted mother, Linda Joyce Garrigus, of Cape Coral, FL. Other survivors include his very special niece, Leah Wells, of Walkersville, MD, his in-laws, John and Lorraine Garvin of Ft. Myers, FL, his Uncle George and Aunt Nancy Rogers of Bradenton, FL, Aunt Patsy Rogers of Lake Mary, FL, Aunt Annie and Uncle Tom Terlizzi of Virginia Beach, VA, Aunt Barbara Garrigus of Punta Gorda, FL, and many cousins who loved him deeply.
Pete was predeceased by his loving father, Peter Bond Garrigus, who he affectionately called “Clyde.” He was also predeceased by his younger sister, Melody Ann Garrigus, who passed away only months earlier in September.
Pete grew up in Annapolis, MD, and loved his life there at his family’s home on Turkey Point. He was a graduate of Widener University in DE, where he earned a BS in Hotel & Restaurant Management. He was a gifted chef and grill master, a skilled mechanic, and licensed boat captain. His love of boating and water later took him to FL where he met his beloved wife, Laura.
Pete had a personality that was larger than life, and a loving heart that touched all who knew him. He was a wonderful speaker and entertaining story teller. No matter the occasion, Pete was sure to make you smile and laugh. As so many said, he was one of the good ones! Pete’s life was blessed with many close friendships. His family will be forever grateful for the love and support he received from so many over the years. He is now resting at peace in the arms of our Heavenly Father. His light will shine forever in our hearts. Carry on, Captain Pete!
A memorial at sea is being planned for sometime in the spring, when Pete's ashes will be scattered into the beautiful water he loved so much.
