Richard P. McQuade

Tribute

Richard P. McQuade, Lt. Col., USAF, retired.

 Rich was born in the Bronx, NY on August 25, 1931 to John and Margaret (McCarthy) McQuade. 

Upon graduation from Fordham University in 1954, he entered the United States Air Force where he spent 26 years as a pilot. During his tour of duty, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Readiness Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal.  He served in New York, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Germany and Viet Nam.  The family moved to Cape Coral in 1980.

After retirement, he worked for thirteen years for Cape Coral Bank/Sun Trust. For years he was an altar server at the 9:00 a.m. daily mass at St. Andrew Catholic Church. He was an altar server at the 9:00 Mass and also a Lay Eucharistic  Minister. He was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Andrew, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a driver for the Cancer Society.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Florence Gaydos, and brother, John McQuade. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine Smith McQuade, and children: Thomas McQuade (Vicki), Helen Barbara, Theresa Cushman (Michael) and Michael McQuade.  He is also survived by Andrew McQuade, Amelia McQuade, Paige Walker, Meghan McQuade, Kaley Barbara, Jonathan Barbara and Timothy Barbara.  He is also survived by nieces: Dorothy Gaydos, Margie Bresko (Paul), Nancy Przybocki (Bud) and Maureen McQuade.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Andrew Catholic Church 2628 Del Prado Blvd., Cape Coral, FL 33904, or the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers P.O. Box 302, Maryknoll, NY 10545.

 A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Graveside Services with military honors will follow at 12 PM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL.
