Robert D. “Sarg” Schultz, age 70 of Cape Coral, FL passed on Sunday, December 9, 2018. He was born the son of Lester Sebolt and Hazel M. Schultz on February 27, 1948 in Chicago, IL. His parents predeceased Mr. Schultz. He is survived by his wife, Sheri Schultz, two sons: Robert D. Schultz, Jr (wife, Pamela and 4 daughters, 6 grandbabies), Timothy Schultz (a daughter), 2 stepsons: Brandon Gile (4 daughters) and Jay Gile.
Robert had a thirty-year career in law-enforcement. He joined the Des Plaines, IL police department on March 9, 1970 and retired on March 15, 2000. During the 30 years, he worked as a patrol officer, tactical team member, detective, and patrol sergeant. The highlight of his career was during 10 days in December 1978 when he was a member of a four-man tactical team, surveilled serial killer John Wayne Gacy. That surveillance greatly contributed to the arrest and conviction of Gacy for murdering 33 young men and boys.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 3:30 pm on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Fuller Metz Funeral Home and Crematory Services located at 3740 Del Prado Blvd. S., Cape Coral, FL. Services will commence at 3:30 pm with Richard Miler officiating and James Miller singing the song “Thank You” which was one of Sarg’s favorites. Final arrangements will be determined at a later date.
