CAPE CORAL, FL -- Ronald Lee Gerard Sr, 73, passed away of natural causes on Friday, June 26th, 2020 at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, FL.
He was born in Kewanee, IL on March 9th, 1947. He graduated from Neponset High School in Neponset, IL in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 - 1970 and again from 1975 - 1979. He was a proud Vietnam War veteran who earned a Purple Heart during his service in Vietnam.
He is survived by his son, Ronald L. Gerard Jr of Cape Coral, FL and his sister, Patricia Miller of Kewanee, IL. He has two grandchildren, Christy (William) Prentice and Shaun Gerard. Both grandchildren are currently serving in the military in California. He has two great-grandsons, Braideyn and Grayson Prentice. In addition, he has two nieces, Jen Rosenthal and Angel Hatley and a nephew, Charlie Johnson.
He was preceeded in death by his father, Kenneth “Herbie” Gerard, a dear aunt Arlene Gerard , and his grandmother, Lucy Gerard.
He enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to go fishing, hunting, and boating. He worked in Kewanee, IL at the city water department. After moving to Florida, he was a heavy equipment operator.
From Florida, he moved to the Phillippines for a number of years. He then moved back to the U.S. landing in Davenport, IA for a few years before moving back to Florida.
His wishes to be cremated have been honored. His son will be having a memorial later this year in Illinois.
