Tribute

Rose Marie Martie was born on December 15, 1939 the third child of Bernard and Mary Durbin in Ramsey, Illinois. She was dearly loved by her older brother Leland Leon and sister, Mary Lou. The family moved to Colorado in 1949. After high school Rose completed her nursing degree. She provided loving care to patients in hospitals and nursing homes throughout her life. Rose met Donald Martie in Miami Beach, Florida and they were married in 1978. As Don’s health failed, Rose again took on the duty of caregiver and provided for Don’s every need with loving tenderness. When her parents were no longer capable of living alone she moved them to her home and cared for them the rest of their lives. Rose loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. Rose enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. Her sense of adventure took her to Italy, Jerusalem, Germany, Scotland, Canada, Haiti, Jamaica, Hawaii, and little excursions all over the United States including three Alaskan cruises. The highlight for her in Alaska was always the dog sledding. Rose rarely missed a family event even when it demanded that she drive across the country to enjoy camping, hiking and boating in the Wind River Range. She embraced her independence and spoiled her beloved schnauzers. Rose loved coffee. She was fond of dining out and cherished her friends. Rose was a faithful parishioner of St Andrew’s Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a Lay Carmelite. Her faith was a significant part of her life and she devoted countless hours in prayer for others. Rose passed away at her home on February 2, 2021 at the age of 81. Preceding her in death were her parents, Bernard and Mary Durbin; her husband, Don; brother, Leland and nephew, Arlyn Davison. Rose is survived by her sister, Sister Mary Lou Durbin OSF; sister-in-law, Virginia Durbin; nieces Debra Davison, Diana Morgan (John), Mary Reiman (Kent), Jenifer Proud (Larry); nephew, Leon Durbin (Rhonda); Don’s sons Donald, Michael, Richard, David; daughter, Carol and their families. Rose will be also missed by sixteen great nieces and nephews and their families, a host of cousins and some very close friends.
