It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Shirley (Shaffer) Roe of Cape Coral, FL who peacefully passed away on November 4th 2023 at the age of 91.
Born on January 13, 1932, in Elmira, NY, Shirley was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy in New York. She studied piano and received her Bachelor of Music in 1954 and her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance in 1955 from The Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College in Ohio. Shirley had been a concert performer with the Toledo Symphony and worked with many renowned artists including Aaron Copeland and Leonard Bernstein as well as bestowing her gift for music on to countless churches which she attended. Shirley married her beloved husband Sheldon Ford Roe, Jr. on November 1, 1959 and they sailed the world from their homes in Cape Coral, Florida and Hector, NY. She also excelled at baking cherry and key lime pies and shared her talents with anyone who wanted to bake. Shirley is survived by her nephews Robert Shaffer Jr., Martin Shaffer and Scott Shaffer, and her nieces Cheryl Richards (Shaffer), Carol Pike, Barbara Larsen, Margaret Siebenhar, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Sheldon, her parents William Avery Shaffer, Alvina Stella Bierwiler (Shaffer), her brothers William Avery Shaffer Jr., and Robert Alan Shaffer and their wives.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to the staff at Palmview (Gulf Coast), Cape Coral FL and Hope Hospice, Cape Coral FL who showed love and compassion in their care for Shirley.
