Viola graduated from Elyria High School, OH in 1939 and in 1942 became an Executive Secretary at Turner Gauge Grinding Company. It was there she met her husband, the late Frank William Turner.

When Viola married Frank, on January 23, 1943 she became an instant Mom, raising Frank’s three children from a previous marriage, Nancy Ann (Annabella), age 7, Barbara Jean, age 6, and Frank Jerome, age 4. Viola had no natural children, but mothered these three during their childhood years as her own.

After her children were grown, Voila returned to her business career and became a Legal Secretary in Pontiac, MI and Bloomfield Hills, MI. Viola retired in 1976 and then in 1984, she and her husband moved to Cape Coral, FL.

Along with her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Frank William Turner in 1998; sister, Elinor A. (Grugel) Gatz in 2011, brother, Frank Grugel, Jr. in 1986, and daughter Barbara Jean (Turner) Smith in 2007.

Viola is survived by her sister, JoAnn Alice (Grugel) Frank, daughter, Annabella Nancy (Turner) Richardi, son, Frank Jerome Turner, cousins, Christie Ann (Jagmin) Rice, Bernice (Micus) Mannerelli and Alice (Micus) Manzella along with 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, 17 nieces and nephews and her beloved Ocicat, Sparkles.

Viola will be remembered as a warm and generous spirit with a great smile and a good-natured disposition to match. Viola was a member of the Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school and used her musical abilities singing in choirs and playing the piano and organ. Viola was an animal lover, an avid reader, a golfer and loved to shop. Being a proficient typist, Viola enjoyed writing many letters on her computer and in later years enjoyed Facebook to stay in touch with family and friends. Viola was also accomplished at needlepoint, knitting and sewing, talents she inherited from her mother, Emma.

Viola will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia, MI, beside Frank, her beloved husband of 55 years.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Hope Hospice, Cape Coral, FL.
