William Richard Griffis

William (Bill, “Sweet William”) Richard Griffis, 97, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away on June 13th, 2020.
Bill was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 5, 1922. He served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater in WWII and retired as a Lt. Col. He graduated from Cornell University with a Master’s Degree in Food Science.
He and wife of 70 years (Joan A. Feistel) had four children (Donna Anderson, William R. Griffis, Jr. (Rick), Debra Godwin and Linda Wadsworth). He had 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His hobby was playing the organ.
Bill owned and operated the Dipper Dan Ice Cream Shoppe in Danville, Illinois and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis, Elks and musical groups.
Burial in Evergreen Memorial Park in Evergreen, Colorado.
